New Single – Auld Lang Syne

My new fingerstyle guitar arrangement of Auld Lang Syne will be released on December 21st. Traditionally sung (screamed!) on Hogmany/New Year’s Eve by revelers celebrating the coming year my version is more contemplative.

With 2020 being particularly challenging for many and with too may lives lost, I found myself playing this melody whilst in a more reflective mood. That said it is not a ‘sad’ version but a contemplative and hopeful one.

Another album track done

So how is everyone doing during the lockdown?!!!

I am using the time to crack on with arranging and recording tracks for a new album. Turns out I have around 6 or 7 album’s with of material so it’s a tough choice figuring out what to do first!! Good problem to have I guess.

One track I am definitely including is a beautiful melody written by Roger Tallroth (from the Swedish group Väsen) called Josefins Dopvals (Josefins Waltz). I first heard this tune some years ago when my fiddle player made me learn it for a music festival we were playing at. The infectious melody stayed with me and I have arranged it for solo guitar in CGDGCD tuning. The tab is in the store and you can watch me playing it below.

3 Jigs

So we are all self isolating and trying to deal with a new world where a virus has us all locked in our homes wondering how to deal with this nonsense and gigs and concerts are all cancelled!

It’s a difficult and challenging time but I am using it to arrange and record some new music for my album.

Here is a group of 3 Irish Jigs I recorded recently (sheet music and tab available in the store).
